Performance: Ranger vs Colorado

2019 Ford RangerThe 2019 Ranger offers a 2.3L EcoBoost® engine that spits out a best-in-class gas torque rating of 310 lb-ft of torque.1 When you pair a number like that with 270 horsepower, you know that you’ve got an engine that’s ready to rock ‘n roll. On the other hand, the 2019 Colorado isn’t going to be doing any rocking n’ rolling with its 2.5L I-4 engine, which only manages to produce 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque.

Ford vs Chevy: Towing Capabilities

In many cases, the truck with the mightier engine can brag of the mightier towing capacity: that’s definitely true in this case. The Ford’s 2019 Ranger allows you to tow up to 7,500 pounds, and it even throws in a best-in-class payload of 1,860 pounds.1 Now compare that to Chevy’s 2019 Colorado with its 2.5L 4-cylinder engine’s 3,500-pound towing capacity. Even if you upgrade to the Colorado’s available 3.6L DOHC V6 engine, that figure still only reaches 7,000 pounds.

2019 Ranger vs. 2019 Colorado: Technology

2019 Ford Ranger orangeFinally, the Ford Ranger is equipped with many high-tech performance features that will push your capabilities through the roof. Make sure to contact us if you have any questions about how they work!

  • Electronic Locking Rear Differential: With a locked rear axle, both wheels turn simultaneously. This optimizes your traction for tricky situations, such as the job site, the trail, or a snowy highway.
  • 4X4 Electronic Shift-on-the-Fly: Now, you just need to turn a dial to shift right into 4X4 mode.
  • Terrain Management System: Between Normal, Grass, Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, and Sand, practically no terrain should intimidate you. As soon as you select one of these modes, the Terrain Management System adjusts engine responsiveness and transmission gearing accordingly.
  • Trail ControlTM: Of course, sometimes the trail seems to combine all of those elements into one daunting mission—and that’s where Trail Control™ comes into play. This driver-activated control system is included in the FX4 Off-Road Package, and it’ll make a world of difference in your life.

Some of the Chevy Colorado’s top performance features include four-wheel drive and traction control. While these are crucial, we feel that their engineers didn’t go as far in integrating state-of-the-art technology.
