According to a study conducted by MIT, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles release 260 grams per mile of carbon dioxide and fully battery-electric vehicles create just 200 grams.

You can see the benefits those types of eco-friendly cars provide when comparing them to a gas-powered vehicle that releases more than 350 grams of carbon dioxide per mile driven.

Economic Impact 

There is also a positive shift in the economic landscape when more and more drivers choose to drive an eco-friendlier vehicle. The United States imports nearly eight million barrels of petroleum per day. While the country is still a net exporter of petroleum, the transportation sector does account for 70 percent of petroleum consumption, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

By an increase in electric and even both hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles cruising the roads, that number can lower. Why is this key? Having a more diversified method of transportation that relies on multiple fuel sources to generate energy can then provide added security to the nation’s energy sector.

It also allows the energy needed to power these vehicles to be produced through various avenues, such as wind energy, solar energy, and hydropower.   

Providing Improved Longevity 

Electric vehicles continue to innovate year in and year out when it comes to their dependability. This can be seen in the increase of range they provide and their duration of time on the road. More manufacturers are confident their EVs will last for 20 years and potentially longer!

The average passenger car that is on the road today typically lasts for about 12 years, according to statistics provided by the Bureau of Transportation.

This means you might need to shop for and buy a new car less frequently with an electric vehicle. Plus, an EV has fewer mechanical parts than a car with an internal combustion engine. This means an EV may be better positioned to drive for all those years with minimal costs of repairs needed to do so.
