Cabin Space & Cargo Capacity
The Ford Explorer is tailored to carry up to seven passengers, while the Jeep Grand Cherokee is limited to five passengers. The Explorer includes 40.7 inches of headroom and 43 inches of legroom in its front row, while the Grand Cherokee offers 39.9 inches of headroom and 40.3 inches of legroom to front-row occupants.
Each vehicle offers space in the back to hold your cargo. The Explorer offers 18.2 cubic feet of cargo space, but when you fold the third row, it opens 47.9 cubic feet. The Grand Cherokee offers 36.3 cubic feet of cargo space. When all the rear seats are folded, the Explorer includes 87.8 cubic feet of total cargo space, which is more than the 68.3 cubic feet offered by the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Driver-Assistive Technology
The Ford Explorer comes standard with some driver-assistive technology systems. These work by using sensors mounted to the outside of the vehicle and are used to measure factors, like your lane position, distance from other cars, and your rate of approach. The Grand Cherokee only offers these features after an upgrade.
