Ford Escape vs Honda CR-V

Ford Escape plainfield IN

From Plainfield to Indianapolis, Brownsburg, IN, and beyond, drivers are loving the Ford Escape. What do they love about it so much? Well, this crossover’s efficiency is probably a good place to start. Its seating for five probably helps, too.

However, some talk about another top-of-the-line crossover has recently emerged. That’s why our Andy Mohr Ford team wrote this 2021 Ford Escape vs. Honda CR-V review.

If you have any questions about either model, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us today.

Escape vs. CR-V: Performance & Capability

It’s no secret that the engineers over at Ford are renowned for the state-of-the-art powertrains.

Fortunately, the Escape isn’t an exception to this rule. Check out its awesome lineup:

  • 1.5L EcoBoost® engine: A peppy motor with a dynamic blend of power and efficiency.
  • 2.0L EcoBoost® engine: Kicks up every day driving up a notch.
  • 2.5L Hybrid engine: An eco-friendly ride for more time spent on the road.

The Honda CR-V, on the other hand, only offers two powertrains. While a hybrid engine is also available, it falls short with only 143 horsepower while the Escape delivers up to165 horsepower.

Additionally, the 2.0L engine in the Escape generates a thrilling 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. You’ll notice a difference in performance with the CR-V since it reaches its max at 190 horsepower.

Explore for Longer

In addition to power output, you want to make sure your next vehicle has the right amount of efficiency to keep you cruising past gas stations.

The standard powertrains in the 2021 Ford Escape and Honda CR-V are evenly matched, with both earning an EPA-estimated 28 city and 34 highway MPG. The Escape, though, boasts a slightly larger fuel tank at 14.8 gallons, while you’re only given a 14-gallon fuel tank in the CR-V.

Where the Ford Escape and CR-V really differ in terms of efficiency are their hybrid powertrains. The 2.5L hybrid motor in the Escape boasts an EPA-estimated 44 city and 37 highway MPG. Expect to make more gas station stops in the CR-V with an EPA-estimated 40 city and 35 highway MPG on the hybrid engine.

Stay Protected Around Every Curve

For greater peace of mind on the unpredictable road, the 2021 Ford Escape and Honda CR-V are both available with all-wheel-drive systems. The intelligent system in the Escape monitors road conditions for you and then transfers torque and control as needed.

While the CR-V is sure to keep you stable, it won’t read the road and adjust performance as needed for you. For that convenience, you’ll want to choose the Escape. Additionally, with Curve Control, Torque Vectoring Control, and AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ in the Escape, you’re able to rest assured (or rather, drive assured) that you’re going to stay right on track.

2021 Escape vs. 2021 CR-V Safety

These crossovers are built with a host of potentially lifesaving safety technologies to help you have a more protected and secure commute.

On the 2021 Ford Escape, these standard features are called Ford Co-Pilot360™ and include the following:

  • Auto High-Beam Headlamps: Uses high beams to create an enhanced view of the road around you at night. When another vehicle approaches, it intelligently toggles downwards, so no one’s view is affected.
  • Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert: Monitors your side blind zones and alerts you to detected vehicles so you can leave your lane with complete confidence.
  • Lane-Keeping System: Alerts you to unintentional lane sway to keep you on track. If needed, it applies gentle steering corrects to prevent you from leaving your lane entirely.
  • Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking: Measures the distance between you and frontal obstacles, alerting when you’re following too closely. If a frontal collision seems imminent, it applies the brakes to help prevent impact.

While the Honda CR-V also comes standard with comparable Auto High-Beams, a Lane-Keeping System, and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, you’ll have to upgrade to a higher trim level if you would like a Blind Spot Information System.

Since this technology lets you know when it’s safe to change lanes, this is probably a feature you’ll want on your next crossover.

Upgrade Your Protection

Of course, you can never be too safe, so the Escape is also available with Active Park Assist 2.0. This system intelligently steers your crossover into parking spaces to make even complex parallel parking maneuvers a total breeze.

Since the CR-V doesn’t have a comparable feature, you’ll have to park the old-fashioned way.

Once you’re back on the highway, the 2021 Ford Escape will keep you alerted through Speed Sign Recognition. Once again, you won’t find a similar feature on the Honda CR-V. Therefore, you may miss out on an essential piece of driving information.
