Shirley Heinze Land Trust is a partnership of volunteers, donors, and professionals working together to keep the area beautiful and clean. Since 1981, they have been preserving this community and they want you to join them in their mission. Get Lost in Nature

HikeTo show you all this area has to offer, Shirley Heinze Land Trust offers guided hikes, and volunteer workdays in the nature preserves in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, and St. Joseph Counties. At these events, you’ll get a chance to met like-minded people and participate in the protection of the ecology of the area—and even get a good eco-friendly workout in! From strolling alongside Green Heron Pond to exploring Wykes-Plampin, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The programs run by Shirley Heinze Land Trust are broken into the following three categories:

  • Land Preservation: Protecting and beautifying nature areas for future generations to continue to enjoy.
  • Stewardship: Restoring nature back to a healthy and sustaining state.
  • Education: Teaching people of all ages about the value of land and how they can engage in stewardship and preservation.

Land PreservationWhether you’re an avid conservation or just looking to learn the ropes, these programs are designed to help you actively participate in keeping Indiana as beautiful as possible.
