2020 Ford Explorer Drivetrain

The 2020 Ford Explorer proves that everything comes back in style. While all-wheel drive is still offered, the latest Explorer becomes the first one in over six years to offer a rear-wheel drive configuration.

Whichever setup you select, you’ll be able to adjust your drivetrain to match the ground you’re on. The Terrain Management System™ returns and continues to give you the freedom to switch between several modes, such as gravel, mud, and snow, by turning a dial on the center console.

2020 Ford Explorer Interior

The interior of the 2020 Ford Explorer still features space for the whole family and lots of cargo room. It’s simple for passengers to get to the back seats with the E-Z Entry 2^nd-row captain’s chairs. For extra seating, a second-row bench seat is also available. 

Both the second and third rows can fold down to give you over 87 cubic feet of cargo room behind the front seats. Loading cargo is easy, even when you’ve got your hands full, thanks to the available hands-free foot-activated liftgate.

Up front, the infotainment system gets a big upgrade. It now offers a 10.1-inch portrait-style touchscreen. This vertical display looks like a full tablet on top of your dashboard and can show your maps, music, and notifications all at the same time. 

Plus, keeping your phone charged will now be easier with an available wireless charging pad on the center console.

For even more technology, move over to the driver’s seat, where the traditional instrument cluster has been replaced by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a customizable productivity screen.

2020 Ford Explorer Trim Levels

The 2020 Ford Explorer has some notable additions to its lineup. You’ll recognize the base model, XLT, Limited, and Platinum, but find that the Sport trim has been replaced by the ST and there’s a new hybrid model.

Ford Explorer ST

This performance-inspired SUV sits on a sport-tuned suspension and is powered by a 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine. This powertrain will be able to get up to 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque.

To manage this powerful engine, you’ll have a 10-speed automatic transmission with sport mode. Plus, it rides on bold red brake calipers.

Ford Explorer Limited Hybrid 

This hybrid SUV strikes an exciting balance. It showcases both impressive power and fuel economy. It runs on a 3.3L V6 hybrid powertrain that’s able to get up to 318 horsepower and 336 lb-ft of torque and drive up to 500 miles between stops for you gas.

It also works with a 10-speed transmission, so you can travel on all kinds of terrain and tow up to 5,000 pounds.
