How to Find Vehicle Charging Stations

Vehicle Charging Stations

One of the biggest aspects of owning an electric car is charging it. While you can always do so right at home when your car is parked in the garage, there will be times you’ll need to get some extra range to complete your errands and have enough charge to get home. This is where public charging stations are helpful. These stations can be located everywhere, from shopping centers to just along the streets of the city.

How you can then easily find a vehicle charging station while driving around Plainfield, Indianapolis, and Brownsburg, Indiana? Below, we’ll discuss different ways you can conveniently go about finding a charging station!

Search on Your Phone

Vehicle Charging Stations

Using the navigation app that is on your smartphone, you may be able to find nearby charging stations, and even one that is conveniently located near the store you are headed to. Just like you would search for gas stations in the past using your maps, you can simply type in “electric car charging stations” and see which spots pop up.

Then, all you have to do is choose the one you’d like to head to and get directions to that nearby charging station. If your electric vehicle (EV) is equipped with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, you can even seamlessly display those directions right on the center screen in your car for best visibility of your route guidance.

Find a Charging Station Using SYNC®

If you drive a Ford EV, you’ll have an even easier time finding a charging station as you travel around. That is because with the latest version of the SYNC® infotainment system, you can simply find a charging station right from the touchscreen. Here is how to find vehicle charging stations using your Ford’s infotainment system:

  • Select “navigation.”
  • Click “Where to?”
  • Select “chargers.”
  • Select “charging stations.”
  • Pick a specific charging station and hit “Go!”

Once you pick out the charging station you want to head to, the navigation system will automatically find the best route to take to get there. You can even filter your search based on the type of charging station you specifically are looking for.

Use FordPass® to Find Public Charing Stations

You can also plan ahead and figure out where there might be a charging station near the destinations you are headed to for the day. Whether you need to run some errands, go shopping, or take the kids to different activities, your FordPass® app will be a big help in making sure you can charge your Ford EV when it is most convenient for you.

First, you will be able to see how much charge your EV has as well as the estimated distance you still have left to drive before needing to charge it. Right on this smartphone app, you will see a button that says “view chargers.”

This will then bring up a list of nearby charging stations and how many miles there are to your current location. Once filtered to the information you need, you can then plan your day accordingly by choosing a charging station that allows you to charge up your Ford electric vehicle when it is most convenient for you!
