F-150 75th Anniversary

The Ford F-150 — Trucking Through the Decades

Since 1948, one truck has stood above the rest. It was built tough, to handle any job. Given a sleek design that changed with the times, but never went out of style. And has a name that people trust. Join Andy Mohr in celebrating 75 years of the Ford F-150!

Where It All Started — 1940s

The war is over, and the world was ready for a new truck. 1948, Ford introduced us to the F-Series. During the war, Henry Ford shut down all civilian production in order to produce vehicles that would support our troops and allies. When the war ended, Ford began production on a new vehicle that would change the world as we knew it.

New Technology for a New Generation — 1950s

1953 came fast, and the F-Series needed a facelift. New engine, new chassis, new interior and more! The F-Series became more spacious, stylish, and sleek. Plus, incredible add-ons like radio, dome lights, arm rests, lighters, and more became available. With such a large update, the name changed too. The F-1 became the F-100, the F-2 and F-3 merged to become the F-250, and the F-4 became the F-350.

This Model Was Fire —1960s

The third generation got a modernized redesign. Transitioning into the C-Series, you may recall these tough vehicles being used as fire and delivery trucks. With a fresh look and new purpose this truck was already making its mark on history! Plus, the iconic Twin-I-Beam front suspension made its debut in this generation. This gave the truck a leg up when it comes to maneuverability. With bucket seats from the Mustang, and a newly improved, smooth ride, this truck ruled the ‘60s!

The One That Changed Everything — 1970s

Close your eyes and picture a camper attached to a truck… We’d be willing to bet it’s this generation of the F-150. More room, more trims, and more features were added to this truck, including an AM/FM radio and our personal favorite — factory installed air conditioning. Later in the ‘70s, the name F-150 emerged and went on to become the best-selling truck of all time! This generation saw significant upgrades that included a larger cabin, front disc brakes, relocated gas tank, improved heating and air, and more!

All Out ‘80s — 1980s

Completely redesigned and ready for anything. This truck was aerodynamic, had power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, and more. These generations took a big step forward for convenience and modernity. By 1989, the F-Series won the title as the nation’s best-selling vehicle.

The Next Step — 1990s

Motor Trend Magazine named the new F-150 as Truck of the Year in 1997, and it’s clear why. This truck has come a long way from its start in the ‘40s, to becoming the contemporary personal use truck of the ‘90s.

A Classic in Every Generation — 2000s

The truck you know and love has seen countless changes over the years but one thing has stayed the same… The F-150 is SPECIAL! It’s become more powerful, comfortable, and technologically advanced than Henry Ford could have ever dreamed.
