PERFORMANCE
Ford F-550

The jobsite can be an unforgiving place. Between hauling equipment, materials, and co-workers, you need a truck that’s powerful enough to handle it all. Will it be the F-550 or the Silverado 5500 HD?

Finding Inner Strength

Power comes from within. With your F-550 or Silverado 5500 HD, said power is generated by a no-excuses engine. Built to withstand grueling demands and minimal downtime, the engines of these trucks deliver unparalleled power that’s non-negotiable.

While comparable in horsepower and torque output, there’s a major difference between the engine of the F-550 and the Silverado 5500 HD. That difference is found in options.

The Ford F-550 comes with two engine selections: a standard 7.3L V8 gas engine or an optional 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel engine. The Silverado 5500 HD is only offered with a 6.6L Duramax Turbo Diesel V8 engine.

Always Go the Extra Mile

Your truck needs to be like Sisyphus. It must always be willing to endure great weight, ready and willing to persevere no matter how difficult a task may be. The incredible power generated by the engines of these comparable trucks makes both models great contenders, but only one can go the extra mile.

The Silverado 5500 HD has a maximum payload capacity of 11,933 pounds when properly equipped. This incredible feat is impressive, though not nearly as impressive as the capabilities of the F-550.

When properly equipped, this truck has a maximum payload capacity of 12,770 pounds.

CUSTOMIZATION
Ford F-550

Each job is different. Luckily, the 2023 Ford F-550 and the Chevy Silverado 5500 HD make it easy to customize a chassis cab to fit your exact needs.

A Cab for All Work Needs

Comparing the Ford F-550 and the Chevy Silverado 5500 HD to a work of art may seem odd, but going beyond the surface level you’ll see that both models are blank canvases waiting for you to design into a functional masterpiece.

Both cabs come standard with Power Takeoff (PTO) Provisions so you can power tools and accessories whenever the engine is running.

Thanks to the available Ford Pro™ Upfit Integration System, the F-550 can easily be transformed into one of the nearly infinite upfit options. Some of the ways you can customize the upfit of your F-550 include:

  • Dump box body
  • Tow body
  • Bucket lift
  • Utility body
  • Plow

The Silverado 5500 HD can also be customized to match popular options like utility and dump body but may not provide the simplified process offered with the Ford Pro™ Upfit Integration System or the ability to directly connect and control peripheral devices through the touchscreen display.

Have It Your Way

Customizing your chassis cab goes beyond choosing the right upfit. It also means choosing the fine details that will elevate your driving experience.

Both the F-550 and the Silverado 5500 HD come in eight different exterior colors that strike the perfect balance between timeless and bold options. This makes it easy to choose the style that most closely matches your company logo. They also both come standard with vinyl seats or optional cloth upholstery. For a premium look, consider choosing available leather upholstery, only offered with the F-550.

One major difference between these models is their cab configurations. The Silverado 5500 HD comes with two options: Regular Cab and Crew Cab. The same two options are offered by the F-550; however, this model also comes in an optional SuperCab configuration which strikes the perfect size balance between the two options offered with the Chevy.

TECHNOLOGY
Ford F-550

Whether using navigation to help you arrive at a new location or streaming music to help pass the time while in traffic, having access to technology makes a huge difference in your workday. Let’s explore the various entertainment and safety options offered by both models.

Entertainment at the Touch of a Button

How easy is it to sync your smartphone to your truck? As easy as one, two, three with the Ford F-550. This cab comes standard with SYNC®4 technology, an advanced infotainment system that lets you wirelessly connect your phone via Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™.

Capabilities of SYNC®4 include:

  • Browsing the songs, podcasts, and other digital features you have saved to your phone
  • Receiving turn-by-turn directions when Navigation is optionally equipped
  • Launching compatible apps like SiriusXM®, Ford+Alexa, and more via AppLink®

Plus, the addition of built-in 5G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities lets you respond to emails, order lunch online, and much more from inside your F-550 without using your phone’s data.

While similar capabilities are found with the Silverado 5500 HD, you’ll only gain access to the available Chevrolet Infotainment System and 4G Wi-Fi capabilities when you upgrade to a higher trim level.

Ensure the Safety of Your Employees

Having a truck that can deliver on performance is important, but the safety of you and your employees is just as much, if not more, important.

Several airbags are found throughout the cabin of both models to help reduce the severity of injury in the event of a collision. But what if there were a way to minimize the need for airbags because there were fewer collisions? That’s possible thanks to the monitoring capabilities of driver-assist technology.

Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning are just two advanced systems that constantly scan your surroundings for potential hazards that may have been missed. In some cases, mild autonomous capabilities may occur when certain conditions are met.

Both features come standard with the Ford F-550 yet are not offered with the Silverado 5500 HD.
