TOWING CAPACITY
MAX HORSEPOWER
EPA-ESTIMATED MPG
Along with having a comfortable cabin, efficiency likely sits high on your list of priorities. The Chevy Equinox offers an available EPA-estimated 26 city/31 highway MPG. However, the Ford Escape delivers extra cruising miles with EPA-estimated 28 city/34 highway MPG when equipped with the baseline motor.
If you want optimal fuel economy, you can also choose either a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid 2022 Ford Escape model. Over in the 2022 Chevy Equinox, you won’t have the option to choose a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid model.
Under the hood of the Chevy Equinox, a 170-horsepower engine—the only option—puts some pep in your step. Once again, though, the Ford Escape comes out on top with its optional 250-horsepower engine that delivers quicker acceleration and responsiveness.
When properly equipped, the 2022 Ford Escape can also tow up to 3,500 pounds. That means you can easily upgrade weekend getaways and family vacations by bringing along oversized outdoor toys, like a small recreational boat or a camping trailer. Drivers may find the 2022 Chevy Equinox more limiting since it offers a maximum towing capacity of just 1,500 pounds.
The Ford Escape also offers a bit more cargo room behind the first row than its Chevy competitor. In the 2022 Ford Escape, you’ll find a maximum cargo volume of 65.4 cubic feet, and in the 2022 Chevy Equinox, you’ll find a maximum cargo volume of 63.9 cubic feet.
At first glance, these SUVs appear quite similar. They both offer comfortable seating for up to five passengers. In the Ford Escape, though, you’ll have over an inch of additional front legroom, which can be especially helpful when it comes to stretching out on longer drives:

To help keep you and your loved ones safe on the open road, both SUVs come with a variety of driver-assistive features. In the 2022 Ford Escape, you’ll find:
- Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
- Auto High-Beam Headlamps
- Lane-Keeping System
Although the 2022 Chevy Equinox comes standard with features like these, only the Ford Escape comes standard with the BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert. It warns you with an audible and visual alert if it detects a fellow driver in your blind spot or behind your vehicle while you’re backing up.
Additionally, the 2022 Ford Escape offers an available intelligent Active Park Assist 2.0 system. When you park in a parallel or perpendicular spot, this system streamlines the process by handling the steering. Simply stop, shift into Neutral, and hold down the Active Park Assist button. Unfortunately, the Chevy Equinox does not offer a comparable feature to this one.
